Welcome to the latest issue.

This month, we share further details of the CRANE All-Hands Meeting taking place 24-25 June at the University of Bath. We recently announced two of our Keynote Speakers as well as a call for Technical Papers and Presentations. Please make sure to register your place before the Early Bird pricing ends on Friday 17th April.

We especially want to encourage Early Career Researchers to attend, and there is a limited travel bursary available (via application) to members who do not have alternative funding sources.

In this issue we also share details of an upcoming impact webinar, recordings from two regional series events that took place in Belfast and Newcastle last month, as well as a round up of wider community news.

Technical Papers and Presentations
Call for Technical Papers and Presentations

We are inviting abstract submissions for short parallel session presentations and poster presentations.  

We welcome abstracts relating to any topic area around Cyber Security. Interdisciplinary research is strongly encouraged. 

Deadline for submission is 17 April. For more details, including submission formats and full guidelines, please see the link below.

Safe and Secure Robotics SIG
Safe and Secure Robotics SIG

An online introduction and launch event is being held on 15 April 2026; 13:00 – 14:00. The session will present and discuss key findings from the recently conducted online survey, highlighting priority research areas, emerging challenges, and practical concerns in robotic security and safety. In addition, the event will emphasise community building and collaboration by bringing together researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders to foster partnerships and shared initiatives.

Creating a 4* Impact Case Study Seminar

An online seminar will be hosted by Prof. Bill Buchanan and Prof. Lynne Coventry on 12th May outlining how to identify and write a 4* impact case study for a forthcoming impact case study.  Examples will be given of two case studies that were rated at 4*

Talk title: Enhancing Trust in AI: Uncertainty Estimation and Detection Frameworks. A well attended hybrid event held on 27th March, with the talk presented by Dr Rahul Yumlembam of Northumbria University.

Northern Ireland regional seminar

Title: Cyber-Resilient Innovation: Empowering Business and Society in the Age of Industry 5.0 and AI. Held on 26 March 2026, the seminar brought together leading researchers, academics, and industry professionals to explore the evolving landscape of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital resilience.

VETSS annual conference
VeTSS annual conference

A one-day event featuring a programme of invited and contributed long and short talks. The conference aims to foster engagement with research areas closely aligned with VeTSS, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, security, and machine learning. It provides a forum to present state-of-the-art research, discuss open challenges, and identify opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration within VeTSS-related themes.

£5m UK funding opportunity

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is investing up to £5 million in Collaborative Research & Development projects to help build secure, resilient software supply chains across the UK, through adoption of the Software Security Code of Practice (SSCoP).

RISE Impact competition
2026 UK RISE Impact Competition

Now open and offering awards of up to £40,000 to support the development of early-stage ideas in Secure Hardware and Embedded Systems Security.
The competition is designed to help researchers translate promising concepts into practical tools, technologies, and applications by supporting activities such as prototype development, market exploration, and proof-of-concept work.
Applications close Monday 13th April 2026.
