Issue 4 - February 2026 

Welcome to the first edition of Wingspan for 2026, in a refreshed and improved format.

We’re pleased to share a number of updates in this issue. You can now join CRANE, with free membership offering access to a growing range of resources, exclusive events, and networking opportunities. By becoming a member, you can also join our SpeciaI Interest Groups (SIGs) or Working Groups (WGs). 

We’ve also recently launched applications to join a new blended sandpit with SPRITE+, and we warmly encourage members to apply.

You’ll also find an update on CRANE regional seminars, news from across the wider community, and a reminder to save the date for our All-Hands Meeting on 24–25 June.

SPRITE+ and CRANE sandpit announcement 

Together with SPRITE+, we are pleased to invite applications to attend a blended sandpit on AI and Trust, Identity, Privacy, Security, and Safety (TIPSS). Up to a total of £224k of combined SPRITE+ and CRANE funding will be made available to fund up to four interdisciplinary projects arising from this sandpit. Join CRANE - become a member

CRANE welcomes members from across the cyber security research community and beyond. It’s free to join, and by becoming a member you get access to updates, annual events, as well as opportunities to participate in SIGs, WGs, workshops and sandpits. There are three membership options to choose from based on your role and your organisation type.

Wales regional seminar series

As part of the series, a hybrid seminar was hosted in December with a presentation on Multiparty Computation for Privacy Preserving Computing by Assoc Prof Berry Schoenmakers from Eindhoven University of Technology.

NCSC will mark its 10th anniversary year and return to Glasgow for CYBERUK, 21-23 April 2026. the UK government's flagship cyber security event. This milestone year promises to be one of the most memorable yet.

The Royal Academy of Engineering
UK IC Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 

This scheme is designed to promote unclassified basic research in areas of interest to the intelligence, security and defence communities. The Fellowships are aimed at early-career researchers from all branches of science and engineering who have up to five years postdoctoral experience. Deadline 28 April 2026.

CyberASAP Year 10 - applications now open

This well-established programme now in its ninth year. It supports UK academics who are interested in commercialising their cyber security ideas and is delivered annually with a duration of approximately ten months. Deadline 11 February 2026
